Anisur Rahman monologue on Malala Yousafzai invites Swedish students to reflect on the value of education
Anisur Rahman has written a poetic monologue about Nobel Peace Laureate Malala Yousafzai, which is to be dramatized by Lotta Gahrton at the Blå Huset in Tensta, Stockholm, Sweden, this October.
The story of Pakistani Yousafzai, who was shot by Taliban soldiers for wanting to go to school, but survived and now fights for children’s right to education, will be used as a basis for examining the Swedish school system. Rahman’s text will be accompanied by two actors/dancers and a musician on stage, and the performance focuses on children’s right to education, peace and democracy. How do Swedish children and youngsters value going to school? How does it feel to go to school when the school system you are a part of is constantly criticized? How is democracy, peace and education related? What is the importance of education?
The performance will include the visiting Swedish pupils through interviews, discussion and dance. It premiered on October 13th and will run ‘til November 14th 2014.
