The City of Harstad launched as first safe haven for persecuted musicians
The SafeMUSE project is established in close coopearation with the Copenhagen based organisation Freemuse - the World Forum on Music and Censorship, which advocates freedom of expression for musicians and composers worldwide. The ambition of the SafeMUSE initiative is to "establish an international scheme of safe music havens for persecuted artists, musicians and composers, initially in the Nordic countries".
"We congratulate the City of Harstad for taking on this important task, and we wish SafeMUSE all possible good for their inventive and exciting initiative", says ICORN director Helge Lunde. "Working since 2006 to provide city shelters for persecuted poets, playwrights, journalists, film-makers, publishers, bloggers, songwriters, novelists, editors and cartoonists", he continues, "ICORN is looking forward to follow the development of the SafeMUSE initiative, hoping for extensive and fruitful cooperation in our joint fight for freedom of expression".
