Conquering the Walls of Silence: New anthology with works by imprisoned and exiled writers launched in Vienna
Austrian PEN's Helmut A. Niederle has just published an anthology with texts of fiction, poetry and non fiction from altogether 56 persecuted writers, who either are imprisoned in their homelands or driven into exile only for executing their basic rights of freedom of expression. The anthology includes texts by among others Zargana, Orhan Pamuk, Yang Lian, Aung San Suu Kyi, Philo Ikonya, Sihem Bensedrine, Victor Rolando and Reza Ghaffari, while the ICORN writers Easterine Iralu, Mansur Rajih, and Horacio Castellanos Moya also have contributed with samples of their recent work. All the texts are translated into German language, and the writers are supplied with a contextualising presentation.
The anthology was launched in Vienna last week, and is available from Löcker Verlag .
