On 3 May 2012, Kofi Annan, former head of the United Nations and a Nobel Peace Prize recipient, awarded four Iranian dissident cartoonists with the first-ever International Cartoonists Prize.
The four artists were ICORN's own Mana Neyestani (Paris/Iran), Kianoush, Firoozeh Mazaffari, and Hassan Karimzadeh. The winners were selected by a panel that included Kenneth Roth, director of Human Rights Watch, the mayor of Geneva, and select cartoonists from around the globe. In addition to the prize, the artists were honored further by having their works displayed along the Wilson Quay on the shores of lake Geneva from 3 May-3 June 2012.
