New guest writer in Trondheim
Mr. Rahbar has worked as a journalist and writer for 16 years in Iran before he had to flee the country. All the newspapers he has worked for has been shut down and most of his former colleagues are now imprisoned. The situation for journalist got worse after last election he explains. Previously the regime critical newspapers would just be closed and the people working there forced to find a new job. Now, he says, the journalists also lose their working permit.
When the situation in Iran got to dangerous his wife fled to Malaysia. He followed shortly after. They did not wish to leave Iran, but realized that staying meant being put in jail.
Mr. Rahbar has in addition to writing for Iranian newspapers also produced numerous articles for the foreign press, many of these has been published by BBC (written under a pseudonym, using his real name would have been too risky).
Mr. Rahbar and his wife arrived in Trondheim late 2012, and his plans are now to learn Norwegian and continue writing. He is currently working on a new book about the revolutions of Iran throughout history.
