Piteå for all - tribute to a new home
The song is called Piteå för alla, Piteå for all. In the description of the song, Swedish Radio writes that it is a warm and honest ballad with verses in English and refrain in Swedish, with a gospel vibe that leads your thoughts to sons like “we are the world” and “heal the world”. It is a tribute and a love song, addressed to the city and to its people. With Chris story in mind, reporter Fredrika Johansson says, fleeing his country for persecution because of a song, landing in Piteå on a cold January evening, it becomes very moving.
A threat for a lament
A Popular musician in Zimbabwe, Cris Gera fled his home country after receiving death threats because of his song ‘Chema Zimbabwe’. The song was released in 2016 and was shared and popularized through social media platforms. The song, a lament of the political, economic and social malaise in Zimbabwe, made Gera subject to harassment from government supporters, who took the song as direct critique of the authorities’ politics. In fear of his life, he fled to South Africa late 2016. In January 2018, Gera arrived in Piteå with the ICORN programme. Piteå joined ICORN in June 2016 and Cris Gera is their first ICORN resident.
