Swedish PEN launches new Dissident Blog
The Dissident blog aims to take back the Democratic lead and to act as an intermediary between the Swedish media and people around the world by publishing essays by writers, journalists and bloggers who are prevented from publishing in their home countries - texts that are somehow outraged, provoked, demonstrated courage, raised questions or created curiosity and thus considered to be too dangerous to be read. The blog wants to be the opportunity for those who are prevented from publishing to reach out to the world.
The Dissident blog's first issue is due this summer. The first issue includes an interview with the Belarus journalist Svetlana Aleksijevitj and newly written poems by presidential candidate and poet Uladzimir Njakljajeu, just released from prison. In addition to a filmed interview with Nobel Prize winner Imre Kertész on the situation in Hungary and also a text of the famous Yemeni blogger Afrah Nasser, who recently was forced to flee from his homeland.
