The City of Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, has a long history as a city dedicated to protecting freedom of expression and human rights. It was one of the members of the original International Parliament of Writers (IPW) and the International Network of Cities of Asylum (INCA) from the 1990s until their dissolution in 2005. Amsterdam’s continued commitment to freedom of expression meant that the city became one of the founding members of ICORN.
As an ICORN City of Refuge, Amsterdam has a complex structure with regards to how it runs its ICORN hosting processes. Additionally, Amsterdam was the location of the 2015 ICORN Network Meeting, under the slogan ‘Creative Resistance’.
