Piteå joined ICORN in 2016 and due to its cultural scene and history, the city has focused on hosting musicians at risk.
Piteå welcomed its first ICORN resident, the Zimbabwean musician Cris Gera in 2018, followed by Iranian rapper and hip-hop artist Justina in 2020, and Uyghur singer musician Yusuf Suleiman who arrived in Piteå in 2023.
