Managing Institution: Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Europa, partnered with the Artists-in-Berlin programme.
At the ICORN General Assembly in Malmö in May 2018, representative of the City of Berlin, Pauline Püschel, announced that Berlin had just signed the membership agreement with ICORN and joins the many other cities in the network to host persecuted writers and artists.
Püschel states that it is Berlin’s task as cultural metropolis and capital of Germany to be not only open-minded but to actively support human rights - especially in the year of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. By joining ICORN, Berlin steps up to this task, speaks out against misogyny and hatred, and takes a stance across borders for freedom of arts and free speech as cornerstones of democracy. Starting in 2018, Berlin has partnered with a known, trusted, and experienced organisation for the running of the ICORN programme for persecuted writers and artists, the Artist-in-Berlin programme.
