Hannover
- 2006
Hannover is the capital of Lower Saxony in Northern Germany.
By a decision of the local parliament, the city of Hannover, founding member of the International network of cities, ICORN, supports writers, threatened or persecuted in their home countries. With the Hannah-Arendt-Scholarship, guest-writers are invited as artists, for a stay of two years in Hannover, with the possibility to continue their literary work, networking and enrichment of the city as ambassadors of their culture(s) of origin.
The Hannah-Arendt-Scholarship in Hannover is organised by the cultural department of the city administration (Kulturbüro), the Literature House, an independent cultural NGO, and by private support. Since 2000 – the year of the “International Exhibition” (EXPO 2000) in Hannover, the city takes part in the International Network of Cities, initiated by the International Parliament of Writers. When ICORN was founded in 2006, Hannover took part in the inaugural meeting in Stavanger, Norway, beside Frankfurt, the 2nd German city.
