Member: Hillerød Municipality
Hillerød is a centre for education, business, and life science, centrally located in North Zealand in Denmark. The municipality has 53,000 inhabitants and is surrounded by beautiful forests, only 30 minutes from the capital Copenhagen.
Hillerød boasts a UNESCO World Heritage Side, the par force hunting landscape (the King's Landscape), and Frederiksborg Castle, built by the legendary Danish King Christian IV in the beginning of the 17th century – the largest renaissance construction in Scandinavia.
Hillerød has vibrant cultural life offering a variety of experiences within music, art, theatre, and film, as well as charming pedestrian streets and shopping malls with boutiques, cafes and restaurants.
Hillerød Municipality joined ICORN in 2021 and prides itself on making a difference in the fight for freedom of expression for writers, artists, and journalists in the context of increasing restrictions of free speech and deteriorating democracy across the world.
Hillerød welcomed its first ICORN resident in 2021, a video journalist and press-photographer from Belarus.
