Cathal Sheerin

Cathal joined ICORN as a Protection Consultant in April 2022. He has extensive experience in the fields of human rights, journalism, and campaigning.  

Prior to joining ICORN Cathal held various positions at PEN International, where, during different periods, he was responsible for research, campaigns and protection work in the Americas, Africa, Europe and Central Asia. His final two years at PEN International were spent working on protection issues with a global focus.  

Cathal has several years’ experience working as a journalist and writer, mainly in the UK. He has also worked in Chile, where he reported on human rights issues. Cathal is the Europe, Central Asia and International Editor for the global free expression network IFEX. He has postgraduate qualifications in literature, journalism, and Spanish.
