Artists, musicians, and former ICORN residents Duaa Kamel, Abdalla Basher, Justina, and Arya Aramnejad are performing in the cultural programme of the 9th World Summit on Arts and Culture, taking place in Stockholm between 3rd – 5th May 2023.

Organised by the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies (IFACCA), the Summit provides an exchange and reflection platform for government, cultural and non-cultural NGOs, and other civil society actors from the international community. With the gathering taking place in Stockholm, the co-organisers of the 9th World Summit on Arts and Culture are the Swedish Arts Council. IFACCA is a network of cultural councils, ministries, and agencies from over 70 different countries, focused on advancing arts and culture globally.

The programme of this year’s Summit is under the slogan ‘Safeguarding Artistic Freedom’, with workshops and panel discussions during the day, and a comprehensive cultural programme in the evenings. As artists, musicians and former ICORN residents in Sweden, Duaa Kamel, Abdalla Basher, Justina, and Arya Aramnejad will be central to the cultural programme, through performances and a meet and greet in Stockholm’s modern art museum Moderna Musset on the evening of May 3rd. You can view the full cultural programme here.

In addition to the artistic and musical performances, ICORN’s Executive Director Helge Lunde will take part in a panel exploring the topic ‘Artistic Freedom Through Socially Engaged Practice’ on May 4th, the second day of the Summit. The panellists will discuss the role of creative practitioners, activists, and organisations in engaging communities and people in creating art through collaboration and dialogue in the context of growing division and intolerance globally. Reflecting on the issues, Helge Lunde will emphasise the importance of cities as actors for artistic freedom, democracy, and human rights.
