Farima Habashizadehasl / Justina

Singer, Rapper, Songwriter

Farima Habashizadehasl, known by her stage name Justina, is an Iranian singer, rapper and songwriter. She graduated with a degree in art and architecture from Azad University of Tehran. Having initially studied theater, she later switched to music. Her lyrics often center on social issues, human rights, and discrimination against women and sexual minorities. Justina has been active as a performer since 2010 and has made over 30 recordings and videos. As a singer, she works in the genres of rap, rhythm and blues, jazz and pop. Despite severe limitations that exist in Iran for solo female performers, Justina established herself as a prolific performer with a large online following. Her first official song and video was released in 2012 called ‘Ghadam be Ghadam’ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=-RMCky4MAE4), which was followed by ‘Negah’ (2013) and ‘Ghablo Bad’ (2014) all through the Mishnsasi Maro record label, established by Tanbe10, a popular Iranian hip hop band. A large part of her work focuses on sexual discrimination and gender issues in Iran, such as her song ‘Kash Donya’ that serves as a call to end to violence against women. More recently, Justina published the song ‘F U Arbab’ in response to the repression of protests in Iran that led to over 1,000 deaths in 2020. Justina has been featured in Elle magazine as a female rap artist who challenges conformism in Iran and on Madame Rap, a site dedicated to female rap artists. She has also been interviewed for BBC (https://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-middle-east-53451702) and the Swedish news site STV (https://www.svt.se/nyheter/lokalt/norrbotten/forfoljd-iransk-rappare-far...). As a result of her artistic work, Justina has been persecuted, interrogated and harassed by the Iranian authorities. She was forced to flee Iran after security forces confiscated all her computers and mobile phones. After living in exile for several years in Georgia, she became an ICORN artist in residence in Piteå in 2020.
