Nazeeha Saeed

Nazeeha Saeed is an award-winning journalist and a leading human rights defender and women's rights advocate from Bahrain.

For more than 12 years, Saeed worked as a correspondent for international media outlets such as France24,  Radio Monte Carlo Doualiya Arabic, Raseef22 and the Alhayat Daily.

As mass anti-government protests erupted in Bahrain in 2011, Saeed's reporting became an essential source of information, highlighting the Bahrain government's attempts to suppress the demonstrations and cover up violations against human rights.

As a result of her coverage of the pro-democracy protests, Saeed was detained, interrogated and tortured. Following her release, she filled a complaint, supported by medical reports, to the Ministry of Interior, which was unsuccessful due to stated lack of evidence.

Based in Bahrain and working for foreign media outlets, Saeed was refused the renewal of her press pass in 2016, alongside 5 other journalists. She left Bahrain in 2016 after the government lifted her travel ban.

In 2017, Nazeeha Saeed took up a 2-year ICORN residency in Paris, where she continued her journalistic and human rights work. She currently lives and works in Berlin.
