Saiful Baten Tito

Saiful Baten Tito is a writer, journalist, and voice actor from Bangladesh. An open atheist, his writing has largely focused on the impact of religious fundamentalism on society, women’s rights, and child abuse. As a voice actor, Tito has narrated stories and plays.

As a writer and journalist, Tito has published newspaper columns, short stories, television scripts, and three books, including two short story collections, Clinical Liar (2018) and Jater Namey Bojjati (2019), as well as the novel Bishfonra (2019). Telling the story of an orphan boy who has suffered sexual abuse at a madrassa in Bangladesh. You can read Bishfonra in Bengali here.

Saiful Baten Tito also runs a YouTube channel where he reports and conducts interviews on the same issues. He has conducted several investigations of child rape in Bangladeshi Islamic religious schools and has posted several videos on the case. You can access Tito’s YouTube Channel here.

As a voice actor, Tito has narrated stories and plays, including the book Confession of Satan, by the Bangladeshi philosopher Aroz Ali Matubbor, which is regarded as blasphemy in Islam. Saiful Baten Tito is an open atheist.

Due to the topics covered in his work, Saiful Baten Tito faced online and in-person threats and attacks from Islamic fundamentalists. Subsequently, Tito’s novel Bishfonra was banned by the Bangladesh government on grounds of ‘causing religious offence and a threat to national security’.

At the end of May 2023, Tito arrived in Gothenburg, Sweden and became the city’s ICORN resident for the period 2023-2025. He continues his literary, journalistic, and acting career by both reaching back to audiences in Bangladesh and being involved in initiatives in Gothenburg and across Sweden.
